theglobaljournal.net: Latest articles of http://www.theglobaljournal.net/member/save-children-international/articles/2012-01-23T12:28:23Z#18 - Save the Children International2012-01-23T12:28:23Zhttp://www.theglobaljournal.net/article/view/498/<p><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.ngoadvisor.net" target="_blank">Check out if Save the Children International is in The Top 100 NGOs 2013 Edition!</a></p> <p><img style="vertical-align: top;" src="/s3/photos%2F2012%2F01%2Fe90acec365cc6c03.JPG" alt="Save the Children Staff member Yuko Nishiguchi" width="600" height="400" /></p> <blockquote> <p>Serving children&rsquo;s needs&nbsp;during emergencies.</p> <p>100 million beneficiaries in 2010.</p> </blockquote> <p style="text-align: justify;">Founded 90 years ago by Oxford teacher and&nbsp;sociologist Eglantyne Jebb to assist &lsquo;children&nbsp;of the enemy&rsquo; in the wake of World War I,&nbsp;<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.savethechildren.net/alliance/index.html">Save the Children International</a> is dedicated to&nbsp;changing the lives of children in need through&nbsp;diverse programming spanning protection,&nbsp;education, health, nutrition, child rights&nbsp;governance, emergency relief and recovery.&nbsp;The organization now has a presence in&nbsp;120 countries across the globe and in 2010&nbsp;alone touched the lives of more than&nbsp;100 million children.&nbsp;</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Previously an alliance of 29 different&nbsp;organizations, Save the Children International&nbsp;transitioned last year to become a single,&nbsp;consolidated movement with a view to efficiency&nbsp;gains and better operational alignment.&nbsp;The organization is guided by a partnershipdriven&nbsp;approach based around a three-pronged&nbsp;strategy of innovative interventions, effective&nbsp;advocacy at the policy level, and the scaling&nbsp;up of best practice programs.&nbsp;</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Recently, the organization has prioritized&nbsp;two aspects of its work, aiming &ndash; firstly &ndash;&nbsp;to be the leading agency addressing the&nbsp;unique needs of children during humanitarian&nbsp;emergencies. In 2010, the organization&nbsp;conducted 41 operations in the context&nbsp;of floods (Pakistan), post-earthquake&nbsp;reconstruction (Haiti) and severe food insecurity&nbsp;(Niger).
